Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday met Mzee Kamunyu Wambugu and his wife Mama Isabella Wanjiru after they had expressed their humble desire to visit him and to share their outstanding cassava harvest with his family. The couple who hail from Chinga in Othaya, Nyeri County harvested a big cassava crop and their story was aired in social media after they declared the Cassava a gift for Ruto.

The dreams of the couple came true sooner than expected after their Chinga Ward MCA Hon Kiruga Thuku who heard their story requested DP Ruto to fulfil the aspiration of his elderly constituents. DP Ruto hosted the Couple in his Karen Residence accompanied by MCA Thuku, held a one on one meeting with them and received their “cassava” present.

DP Ruto thanked Mzee Kamunyu and Mama Wanjiru for “remembering him” and promised to visit their farm next time he is in Nyeri County. “You belong in a class of your own. Few people bring me food. Asante sana kwa kunikumbuka… I will visit you in your farm at home in Nyeri.” On their part, the Kamunyus thanked God for the opportunity to meet the DP and asked God bless him for his humility.

At the same time, DP Ruto offered a camera and laptop to support the Chinga Youth who took the photos of the Kamunyus and brought their story to life in boosting their hustle in the village. This is part of the ongoing I FEEL YOUR HUSTLE Programme which has seen Ruto reach out to youth groups and SMEs to support them with tools of trade to boost their businesses and increase their income generation.
