DP Ruto: The Contest in 2022 is Between the People and the System

Deputy President H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday dismissed recent claims by Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Odinga that the system is more important than the people in deciding who becomes President of Kenya. Ruto warned his opponents that they may have the system, but he has all he needs to win in 2022: the People and God.

Ruto dared the system to bring it on: “They’ll come with the system, but we will be waiting with the people and God and we shall see who wins.” In Kenyan politics, the “system”, refers to the deep state — powerful bureaucrats, political operatives and tycoons bankrolling Kenya’s elections, per Daily Nation

Two weeks ago, Oburu Odinga shocked Kenyans after he openly said that his brother Raila had finally gained the support of the system which is what he lacked in his previous attempts to become President. Oburu added that Raila gained the support of the System as part of the March 2018 Handshake deal.
