Wajir Governor Condemns Violence that Left 5 Dead in Bute Town

Wajir County Governor H.E. Mohammed Abdi Mohamud

Wajir County Governor H.E. Mohamed Abdi Mohamud on Sunday condemned the ugly incident in Bute town which left a bodaboda rider and four others dead as painful, shocking and unacceptable. This is what the Governor had to say:

The ugly occurrence in Bute town yesterday evening where a boda boda rider was trapped into his death by two strangers of “Konso Extract” from Ethiopia is very painful. The resultant counter-retaliations by angry boda boda riders and members of the public that also resulted in the death of four “Konso” and injury of four more who were performing their routine labour work is equally shocking and unacceptable. I express my condolences for the unfortunate loss of five lives and pray for the quick recovery of the injured who are recuperating in Bute Hospital. I thank the County Security Team and Hon. Members of County Assembly from upper north for their quick action and visit to the site to quell the tension.I appeal to the Security Team to apprehend the culprits who are suspected to have crossed over to Ethiopia and further address this matter with finality by controlling the high number of foreign labourers sneaking in to the country, trafficking drugs, promoting promiscuity and contributing generally to insecurity incidences.

At the same time, Wajir County Residents called on the Government to address the matter with urgency. One Abdyshakur Hassan stated: “This matter requires a quick and thorough follow up because otherwise one group will launch a fresh retaliatory attack for vengeance. We urge the Governor to take precautionary measures.
